iPad Killer - Strategic Xperimentz with Tablet-PCs !

This afternoon I wanted a break from my work and I thought enough of digital media, lets read some news from a real paper and my eyes started glancing through several different bits of local and sports news. Here I turn to another supplement and I see a big picture of iPad and large title mentioning "1 Million in a Month".

APPLE announced it sold 1 million iPads in the first 28 days the gadget was on the market. The milestone was hit Friday, the same day Apple began sales of versions that can access the Internet over 3G networks. Apple has built on the success of the iPhone and its sister device, the iPod touch and has sold 85 million of those gadgets to date, so many people already know how to use the iPad, which runs the same operating system. The iPad reached the 1 million sales figure in less than half the time it took the iPhone, Apple's last breakout hit. And iPad users have already downloaded 12 million applications from the company's App Store and 1.5 million e-books from Apple's brand new digital book store. The number of applications in the App Store now exceeds 200,000, up from 185,000 about a month ago. Of those, 5,000 are iPad-specific applications, up from 3,500 a month ago.

Wow! is the word and its amazing to read about Apple's success, but it does not surprise consumer to see how Steve Jobs' products make it big and change the game and the industry.

The article further read about What is following iPad. Its not a question anymore, as The success of Apple's new iPad has prompted other tech companies to plunge into the market for tablet computers, with startups and major PC makers racing to introduce their own competing devices before the end of the year. Speculation is swirling around the intentions of Hewlett-Packard, the world's biggest PC maker and the company that some believe has the best shot at catching up with Apple's early iPad lead. Meanwhile, everyone from upstart Fusion Garage to established names such as Dell are jumping into the pool.Toshiba, Asus and other manufacturers are also expected to introduce tablets running on Google's Android operating system. The New York Times reported that even Google is exploring the idea of producing its own tablet. Google declined to comment.

My eyes were continuesly searching for the word ADAM, and guess what, no mention of it. I was surprised to not see a mention about this wonderful successful Xperiment by 7 Indians (six IITans and an MBA grad) with an average age of 24. Why didnt Adam get any mention in that and several other articles on pc tablets?

ADAM, a product that could make the iPad seem outdated, and, what's more, it is completely Made in India. India is, of course, regarded as a software superpower but hasn't really made waves in IT hardware so far. That could soon change, thanks to the Adam tablet PC of Hyderabad-based Notion Ink. Adam has generated enormous buzz on tech websites and gadget blogs ever since an early prototype was first demonstrated at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the world's largest consumer tech trade show in January this year.

What's so different about the tech behind the Adam tablet? It is indeed the first device in the world to integrate two breakthrough power saving components - nVidia’s Tegra 2 chip and a PixelQi screen. The chip provides an edge over the iPad with its ability to play full high definition videos and Flash on the web browser. It can offer the performance of a computer with the power consumption of a cellphone. PixelQI screen has a dual mode, and can be read in bright sunlight like an e-reader. With the backlight off, the company claims that it can increase battery life between charges by a factor of five. Together, the chip and screen help it achieve twice the battery life and performance of the iPad.

Adam will definitely be priced competitive vis-a-vis Apple's iPad. Notion Ink, Adams creators, plans to start retail sales in US market from July 2010. However, my only question to young minds behind ADAM is, do they think they are prepared for US market?

As the article I was referring to, I have seen several other blogs and articles talking about iPad and other tablets, ADAM needs to be mentioned there if it needs to get into US markets and global market. It needs to create the buzz all over. Do they think to re-strategize their marketing, rather internet marketing. If Adam wants to be the iPad-killer, it needs to atleast come in the league of other tablets in pipeline...

Whatever their strategy is but I am sure if marketed properly and if they keep their promises on quality, ADAM is definitely here to stay and be tablet killer!
